What do you do when you need a break?

    Saturday, August 16th, 2008

It’s the dog days of summer — meaning that everyone is hot, crabby… especially me. I don’t know about you, but I feel like I have an entourage with me wherever I go. Don’t get me wrong, I love my kids dearly, but sometimes I just need some “me” time. Know what I mean?

    Olympic Humor

    Sunday, August 10th, 2008

Rather than review all the highlights, I thought I’d give you a little piece of humor to brighten your day.

Will the real Miley Cyrus please come forward?

    Sunday, July 27th, 2008

The news of the week in every 9-year-old girl’s world was the release of the new Miley Cyrus album, Breakout. It’s a good album, with well written, catchy songs. In my opinion it’s also a bit disturbing. I think in the process of Miley now publicly claiming she’s Miley, something really important has been lost.

    Teaching toddlers to count

    Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

I recently compared notes with a couple of friends about how to teach toddlers and preschoolers how to count.

My kids and I have a little tradition at the playground that very easily teaches counting. It’s so easy. We do it when I push them on the swing.

If you’re new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!Yesterday, my oldest got into big trouble. She did something incredibly stupid, something she admits was just plain dumb. Part of her punishment is to go for a month without computer privileges. Even she agrees this is appropriate.

    Cleaning up

    Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Last year, to my delight, I found a dresser that I judged to be the perfect entertainment center. It had drawers for storage, was tall enough that little people wouldn’t constantly be messing with the electronics, and I thought that with a good paint job it would be fine.
Our old entertainment center is about to [...]

3 tennis balls and a kiddie pool

    Saturday, June 28th, 2008

It’s amazing to me how simple summer fun can be. When I think of a really memorable toddler activity, I sometimes think of going to the park, the zoo, the mall… something that’s an out-of-the-ordinary place. Finding a destination, planning the trip, getting there, paying for it all, and seeing everything there is to see can [...]

Tips for rainy days with toddlers

    Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

On days when my kids can’t go outside to play — particularly in the summer — its alot like being in jail for everyone involved. Here are a few ideas I’ve come up with over the years. Adult supervision, as with all things for little people, is of course, necessary.
Sitting on one’s bottom to go [...]

The Five Things Every Infant & Toddler Parent Needs

    Friday, June 20th, 2008

There are a handful of things that – looking back on nearly 10 years of parenting experience – I can honestly say I couldn’t live without. Sure, there are heaps of cute, cool clothes, toys and furniture you can buy (and probably already have). But amid the clutter, these are the things I found that [...]
